Aion launches at London Design Festival
Foster + Partners Industrial Design introduces the Aion collection, designed in collaboration with the German manufacturer Walter Knoll. It includes a sculptural wooden table and a credenza, which are made using a specialised forming process. The softly profiled, curved tabletop is supported by either dowel legs or bladed side panels. The customisable collection is a statement of timeless elegance and functionality, combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative materials and technology.
Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design, Foster + Partners, said: “Aion is a symbiosis of craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. Every detail – from the clear lines and pure form to the silky matt finish – contributes to its sculptural quality.”
The Aion table is designed to be highly adaptable for various spatial configurations and needs. Users can select from three distinct table edge profiles: Basic (straight), advanced (bevelled), and soft (rounded) – as well as a selection of finishes, including veneers and Fenix surfaces, which are highly wear-resistant. The matt Fenix finish extends smoothly across the tabletop, gently reflecting incoming light as it follows the curved profile. Combined with wood, it creates an elegant contrast that invites users to gather, connect, and collaborate. The table is complemented by a credenza, available in matching surface finishes and designed to work across both residential and commercial environments.
The table’s concealed panels provide structural stability while discreetly accommodating cable management and technical infrastructure. Beneath the tabletop, fine mesh nets gather electrical cables and direct them neatly to the table's centre. A simple hook-in system attaches the nets to the underside of the table, meaning they can be conveniently repositioned and replaced.
The tabletop’s smooth edges and a curved geometry perfectly complement the Osuu chair – another collaboration between Foster + Partners Industrial Design and Walter Knoll.
