Cast and V lighting collections launch at 3 Days of Design

Designed in collaboration with W+, the Swedish lighting manufacturer, Foster + Partners Industrial Design has launched Cast and V at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen.

Cast is a compact spotlight system defined by a magnetic, interchangeable lens that allows beam angles to be switched with precision and ease. V is an adjustable lighting collection, which includes floor, wall-mounted, desk, clamp and grommet-mounted versions.

Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design at Foster + Partners, said: “Both Cast and V have been developed through an iterative process to integrate performance and engineering into a clear visual language, where mechanics are carefully concealed within the form.”

The name Cast refers both to the high-pressure aluminium die casting manufacturing process, and to the quality of light that the system produces. Cast is composed by two interlocking elements, which are joined through a concealed pivoting mechanism that enables smooth manual adjustment – allowing up to 360 degrees of rotation and 90 degrees of tilt. The design draws inspiration from traditional Japanese paper cups, which informed the domed geometry of the lamp’s head.

V draws subtle references from classic library banker’s lamps and reinterprets them. The lamp collection is composed of a number of clearly defined elements: a V-shaped head which inspired the product’s name, a stem that can be vertical or angled, which allows up to 340 degrees of rotation; and a base designed to discreetly manage the power cable beneath. The geometry of the lamp head allows light to spread evenly across the working surface, improving illumination and controlling glare. The offset arm and rotating vertical stem allow natural movement and extended reach, enabling the light to adapt intuitively to different tasks. V’s efficient composition enables flat pack transportation and ease of maintenance.

Cast is available in a selection of durable finishes, including a vibration-treated surface in anodised bronze, black anthracite, tumbled raw aluminium, and white PVD-coated finish. The system is offered in surface-mounted, semi-recessed, track-mounted, and pendant versions, supporting use across residential and commercial environments.

V is available in a range of powder-coated finishes – including anthracite, white, yellow, and red – as well as in a wet-painted aluminium. The aluminium used in V consists of 97% post-consumer recycled material.
